Kalaba Kadhalan (2006)

Directed by :-Igore
Produced by :- Vishnu Talkies
Starring :-Arya,Renuka Menon
Music by Vidyasagar
Release date :- 2006

This film was a low-budget production and the soundtrack was composed by Vidyasagar. Akshaya also appeared in this family based psycho thriller. It enjoyed relatively quiet success. It shared a similar storyline to a great thriller S.J. Suryah’s Vaali and another 2006 film called Uyir. The film’s censors demanded it a 15 rating because of the adult theme and because of some steamy nude scenes between Arya and Renuka Menon.

Thaayin Mani Kodi (1998)

The film that most Arjun fans are looking forward to.. considering it has been over three years since his last directorial venture, "Jai Hindh" in 1994.. After some disagreement between Telegu Adhiradi Raani Vijayashanthi and the producer over the 'rights' of the film, Vijayashanthi opted out of the film and Tabu replaced her..

But Arjun claims that Vijayashanthi's role was never designed to be the adhiradi kind.. Instead, the role is now being done by Bangalore model Nivedhitha, whome Arjun feels has done an adequate job.. The nature of Tabu's role is still kept secret for some reason.. With a reputation that he never releases films on time, Arjun is really hoping that he could change that belief by releasing "Tha.Mani" on time.. Vidyasagar composes music.

Rajni, is supposed to marry Sheeba, an alliance not approved of by her father. He is killed and goes to Heaven only to learn that his death was a mistake. He is offered another body to inhabit, that of a timid villager whose uncle and aunt are plotting to kill him. He takes up the offer and teaches them a lesson while romancing with Kanaga. But coming into contact with some characters from his earlier life, reminds him of his duties over there too. He solves all problems and all's well that end well.

A movie with lots of promise but not realised to the full extent. Rajni's time in heaven is great fun as he fights with Chitrgupta and dances around with Rambha. The part where he corrects the uncle and aunt are good fun too. But a slow first half-hour and a ridiculous climax pull down the movie. Has a nice sequence where, Rajni and Yama and Narada go through earlier roles of Rajni while looking for a body for him to move into.

Here’s another movie no one seems to like, I’m guessing because in this movie, Rajini isn’t a superhero who destroys all his enemies. This movie really builds on Rajini’s skill of playing naive roles, and for sure his character here is. The first half of the movie is how Rajini is taken advantage of by his brothers, and the conclusion has him rescuing them. Illayaraja’s soundtrack is decent, but not special. Maasi Maasam is a pretty good song, and Annan Enna has a nice tune.

The following are some movies which I think are Rajini’s best. Rajini is best known for his charisma on screen, and nowadays he can guarantee a movies success just by being present in it. His last
few films have started to focus on the trends his fans have expected from him, while his earlier movies really showcase the actor in him. Either way, Rajini is a great actor and person, and here are some of my favorites. I don’t know if it’s just me, because some of my favorites, the other Rajini fans seem to dislike.

In this movie Rajini portrays his acting skills, taking on the role of Vanavarayan, the village leader respected by all others. He forms rivalry with Vallavarayan, which climaxes when Vanavarayan wins the hand of Vaitheesvari, who Vallavarayan wanted to marry. Because of this, Vallavarayan asks a priest to poison Vaitheeswari so that she cannot have children. That becomes a major plotline through the movie. I don’t believe the majority of Rajini fans will place this movie very high because it is a sentimental movie, but Rajini easily treads through that territory. In the scene where Vaitheeswari excitedly asks the villagers about what their children names should be (not knowing what happened to her) Vanavarayan joins in just to make Vaitheeswari happy but his grief stricken face as he walks away from her, knowing what their true fate is really gets to you. On the other hand, the comedy from Koundamani and Senthil are hilarious, especially in their early encounters with each other. Illayaraja, of course delivers an amazing soundtrack, with each song making us think it’s the best...until we hear the next one. ’’Ejamaan Kaaladi’’ fits the movie very well.
